There are 3 state
parks in Bedford County: Blue Knob State Park, Shawnee State Park and
Warriors Path State Park. Blue Knob, an all seasons resort, invites
you to experience a unique alpine environment. You'll be able to enjoy
some of the highest peaks in the Allegheny Mountains at the
northwestern tip of Bedford County. At 3,172 feet above sea level,
with a 1,000+ vertical drop, Blue Knob is the highest ski able mountain
in Pennsylvania. Mother Nature graces Blue Knob early and often with
an average snowfall of 160 inches, while smaller areas wait-out early
and late season rains. This allows some of the best snow conditions
possible. It also offers a tubing park and accommodates snow boarders,
too. Shawnee State Park consists of 3,983 acres in the scenic Ridge
and Valley Province. Its focal point is the 451-acre Shawnee Lake.
Bedford County has a myriad of outdoor activities from canoeing down
the Juniata River, to water-skiing in 27-mile Lake Raystown, to hiking
through state forests and game lands. Outdoor recreation is a popular
